Garda whistleblower to meet with Commissioner over harassment

first_imgGARDA WHISTLEBLOWER MAURICE McCabe is due to meet with acting Garda Commissioner Noirín O’Sullivan to discuss complaints he made about harassment by colleagues.The whistleblower, who is based in Mullingar Garda Station, has reported 13 incidents of alleged harassment and bullying to Garda Headquarters. A meeting previously scheduled with the acting Commissioner was put back earlier this month.However understands McCabe’s legal team have written to O’Sullivan’s office to set up a time this week to discuss the alleged harassment and the garda’s general working conditions.Speaking to a meeting of the Oireachtas Justice Committee last month, O’Sullivan said she would ensure these allegations of harassment would be fully investigated. She said at the time that senior garda management are in contact with McCabe on a “daily basis” – something she later had to correct.The Mullingar garda’s access to the PULSE system, which had been curtrailed after he made allegations of wrongdoing by colleagues, was only restored last month. This was the day after the publication of the Guerin Report, which expressed concern as to whether Justice Minister Alan Shatter took all appropriate steps to address McCabe’s allegations.Shatter rejected this view of his management of the situation, commenting a number of weeks after the report’s publication that he had paid “substantial attention” to the complaints.Read: Maurice McCabe has access to PULSE system restored>More: Garda whistleblower ‘vindicated’ by Guerin report>last_img
