He’s produced back-to-back Big 12 titles, Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks, College Football Playoff appearances, and No. 1 overall draft picks. But after leading the Sooners to an easy win at home over the Houston Cougars, Lincoln Riley has gained a new fan as well: Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt. In a recent appearance on The Herd, Klatt gushed over how good Riley is. He went so far as to call the Sooners head coach “the best offensive mind” he’s ever seen. Klatt putt Riley on par with Florida and South Carolina legend Steve Spurrier as an offensive genius.Klatt also pointed to how quickly he was able to get quarterback Jalen Hurts to buy into the system mere months after joining the program. “(His offense) is complicated enough for the defense to look at and not know what’s going on yet simple enough that the quarterback to work through the plays fast. He got Jalen [Hurts] ready to play much faster than he got Kyler [Murray] or Baker [Mayfield] ready to play. Remember Baker and Kyler were both in the program for a while before they played,” Klatt said.”I think Lincoln Riley is the best offensive mind I’ve seen. He’s doing things that are next level.”@joelklatt breaks down why he thinks @OU_Football’s head coach is a “master” at offense.(via @TheHerd)pic.twitter.com/z14day2flV— FOX College Football (@CFBONFOX) September 4, 2019Unsurprisingly, Oklahoma emerged from Week 1 as the No. 4 team in the nation, and the highest-ranked school in the Big 12.Though Riley has yet to bring the Sooners to the top of the mountain with a national title, it feels like it’s only a matter of time.last_img
