Gov’t to Pay Private School Teachers ‘Ebola Money’

first_imgThe Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) has said it would begin the payment of ‘Ebola money’ to private school teachers across the country on Tuesday, August 25.Each of the beneficiaries will receive, for example, high school–L$3,500, high school graduate—L$5,000, ‘C’ Certificate—L$5,500, ‘B’ Certificate—L$7,000, ‘A’ Certificate/AA Degree—L$8,500, Bachelor’s Degree holder—L$10,000, Master’s Degree—L$12,500 and PhD – L$13,000.All payments will be made by Ecobank directly to beneficiaries over-the-counter.The Ministry said it has secured the needed resources through the Ebola Trust Fund to underwrite the cost of one-off payment to private school teachers.The fund, the Ministry said was secured following series of meetings held between the Ministry of Education (MOE) and those from the MFDP.he meeting also brought on board representatives from the Private School Association.The MFDP has called on all private school teachers to have accurate personnel payroll records for April and May 2014. They are also required to have same for the months of April and May, 2015, at their respective schools of assignment because auditors from the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) will visit school premises anytime during the payment period for verification.The statement indicated that several measures have been instituted to serve as strict guiding principles under which payment will be made to individual instructors.The MFDP further said that payment to all categories of private schools teachers will be based on qualification, and will not make-double payment to any teacher irrespective of the number of schools they are teaching.“Payment will be done on the basis of equity across all schools during this current school year,” the statement indicated.The criteria were jointly decided by technical working groups comprising heads of the various school systems, MOE, and the National Principals Association of Liberia.
