Since then he has served a one year apprenticeship that concluded by passing the Kansas Board of Mortuary Arts exam and interview on July 18, 2013.“I’m looking forward to meeting new people and I’m educating myself on the ways that a funeral director can help a family,” Witmer said. “Since I’ve been here all my life, I want to be a resource for the people that have always been there for me.”Witmer will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to meet with families for arrangements, coordinate service details or contact cemeteries, clergy and musicians. Among his many responsibilities, he is also a certified crematory operator and oversees the crematory at Day Funeral Home.Since its opening, Day Funeral Home has made it a priority to hire and retain local employees and licensed professionals.“Being born and raised in Wellington gives us a uniquely vested interest in our community simply because it has been home all our lives,” said Tytus Cornejo, Day’s Funeral Home owner. “The Day families, the Cornejo families and Lance’s family have been Wellington residents for generations. It’s just great to bring another young professional back to Wellington. Lance is a fine addition to our business and to our community.”last_img
